Timothy Briner (b. 1981) is a photographer and educator whose work examines how memory and personal history are articulated through spaces, materials, and relationships. While rooted in autobiography, his practice also extends outward toward parallel narratives found in the lives of strangers and communities across the United States, treating these sites as active structures through which identity and family histories are continually shaped.
Briner’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, and he is a recipient of the Peter S. Reed Foundation Grant. His work is held in the collections of the Haggerty Museum of Art, the Brauer Museum of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, and numerous private collections.
He lives and works in Brooklyn with his partner, daughter, and their two dogs.
He recently marked his 25th year in New York. Briner holds an MFA in Advanced Photographic Studies from Bard College.
